Questions homeowners ask

What is the property tax rate in unincorporated Iredell County?
For the 2026 tax bills (fiscal year 2026-27), the combined rate is 59 cents per $100 of assessed value, or 74.5 cents for homes in the Mooresville Graded School District: 50 cents for Iredell County, 9 cents for the county fire district, and 15.5 cents for the Mooresville Graded School District (some homes near Mooresville). On a home valued at $400,000, that's about $2,360 a year.
When will Iredell homeowners get their 2027 property values?
Iredell County is setting new values for every property as of January 1, 2027, and has adopted its 2027 schedule of values. In the last revaluation, notices went out in February 2023. Tax rates for 2027 are set in the spring, after values are final.
How do I appeal my 2027 property value in unincorporated Iredell County?
First, file Iredell County's appeal form, online or by mail, within 30 days of the date on your notice; an appraiser reviews it and sends a new notice. If you still disagree, appeal to the Iredell County Board of Equalization and Review, which first meets between early April and early May, before it adjourns or within 30 days of your last notice. After a Board decision, you can appeal to the North Carolina Property Tax Commission within 30 days. For the 2023 values, the county's appeal page asked for sales and appraisals from 2022, the year before the valuation date; for 2027 values, expect sales of similar homes during 2026 to carry the most weight, along with corrections to errors in the county's record of your home. The value can go up as well as down.
Can seniors, disabled owners or veterans in unincorporated Iredell County lower their property tax?
Yes, if they qualify. Owners 65 or older, or totally and permanently disabled, with 2026 household income of $39,900 or less can have the greater of $25,000 or half of their home's value excluded. The circuit breaker caps tax at 4 to 5% of income for incomes up to $59,850 (5 years in the home required). Veterans with a 100% permanent service-connected disability can exclude the first $45,000 of value. Apply to Iredell County on Form AV-9 between January 1 and June 1.
