Tax relief check

Lower your property tax bill without an appeal

Mecklenburg County has four programs that cut or put off property taxes for seniors, people with disabilities, disabled veterans and long-time owners. Each one has its own rules on age, disability, years in the home and income, so we ask about those. Answer 7 quick questions, then press See what I qualify for.

Your answers stay on your device; we don't save them.

Which county is the home in?

HOMES grant deadline: November 20, 2026. Up to $650 off your 2026 county tax, first come, first served.

1. Do you own this home and live in it?

All four programs are for owners who live in the home.

2. Is an owner 65 or older?

Seniors can get the senior exclusion or the circuit breaker.

3. Is an owner totally and permanently disabled?

Owners with a permanent disability qualify for the same programs as seniors, at any age.

4. Is an owner a veteran with a 100% permanent, service-connected disability, or the unmarried surviving spouse of one?

Disabled veterans get $45,000 of their home's value tax-free.

The HOMES grant needs 3 years; the circuit breaker needs 5.

The HOMES income limit depends on household size.

Everyone in the home, all sources, including Social Security and retirement. HOMES checks 2025 income; the 2027 state programs check 2026 income. If it has not changed much, one number works.
